Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast. Tourism map Rivne. The territory of the city and its environs were populated since olden times. This is evidenced by archaeological finds - a Roman shield decorated with carving and some Roman coins (2nd c.). The remains of the settlements from the Bronze Age have been found there.
The city attracts tourists by its history and architecture. It is interesting to see architectural monuments: the wooden Dormition Church with the bell tower (1756) and the building of the former gymnasia where famous historian M. Kostomarov taught and writer V. Korolenko studied.

Dubno. The town is first mentioned in the Ipatiivs'kyi Chronicle in 1100. Among its interesting monuments are the castle (14th c.) of the Princes of Ostroh described by N. Gogol in his Taras Bulba and the Luts'k Gate (16th c.).

Korets'. The Trinity Monastery (1620) was formerly the Franciscan Monastery. In 1863 it was transferred to the Orthodox Church. The architecture of the ensemble represents characteristic features of Ukrainian art in the 17th-19th cc.

Ostroh. The town played a significant role in the development of Ukrainian culture. In the 16th с. the Ostroh Academy was opened here, in which many famous figures in politics, science and culture studied at different times. In 1577, printer I. Fedorov founded here the print-shop where he published The Primer and The Ostroh Bible. Among the most interesting architectural monuments are the castle (14th c.) of the Princes of Ostroh, the Epiphany Church (15th c.), and the Luts'k, Round and Tatar Towers (16th c.).

Rivnens'kyi reserve. The reserve was founded in 1999. Its total area is 47,046.8 ha.
The reserve is characterised by a unique combination of marsh, lake and forest natural complexes of Western Polissia. Of special significance is the karst lake Bile and marshland Koza-Berezyna where major plant groups of Ukrainian marshes are concentrated. The massif has an important water protection function and is a leveller of subterranean water of surrounding territories.
In the territory of the reserve a vestige of the Pinsk marshes system has remained, the only one in Ukraine, a unique place of habitation of rare and disappearing species of animals.
