Ternopil'. First mentions of the city in the written sources
belong to 1540, but its territory was inhabited much earlier, which is testified
by archaeological excavations.
Among the monuments of architecture mention should be made of the Old Castle
(1548), the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross (16th - 17th cc.), the
Nativity Church with the defensive tower (1608), and the former Dominican Church
(1779). There are monuments to T. Shevchenko and A. Pushkin in Ternopil'.
Tourists also can visit the Museum of Local Lore and the Museum of Spiritual
Culture.
Berezhany. The town was first mentioned in the chronicle in 1375. For a
long time Berezhany was under the rule of the Roman Catholic clergy. It is
evidenced by the Roman Catholic churches (16th - 17th cc.) and the castle (16th
c). The wooden Church of St. Nicholas (1691) and the building of the former Town
Hall (1811) have also survived to the present day.
The town is associated with the names of many famous cultural workers. Here
Ukrainian artist 0. Kulchyts'ka was born. Her 100th birth anniversary was
commemorated with a monument.
Bil'che-Zolote. The settlement of Bil'che is mentioned in historical documents for the first time in 1482. Its park, laid out in 1800, is one of the finest monuments of landscape gardening in Ternopil's'ka Oblast. Of great interest also are monuments of nature: caves Verteba and the Rocky Church, and Dovbush's Rock.
Kremenets'. In the Ipatiivs'kyi Chronicle the first mentions of the town date back to 1226, when at the walls of Kremenets' the Rus tribe defeated the joint forces of Hungarian and Polish troops. During the Liberation War of the Ukrainian people of 1648-1657, the Kremenets' castle was a fortress for the Poles. In 1648 troops of M. Kryvonis took the fortress by storm. Silent ruins of the castle-fortress (12th c.) remind of those times. The town has a number of architectural monuments, including St. Nicholas' Cathedral with cells (1636), the complex of the buildings of the Epiphany Monastery (18th c.), and the building of the Collegium (18th с.). In 1809 great Polish poet J. Slowacki was born here.
Medobory reserve. The reserve organised in 1990 covers the area of
10,455 ha. It has a branch The Kremenets Mountains.
Here prevail hornbeam-oak, ash-oak-hornbeam, hornbeam-beech, beech, oak and
hornbeam forests which contributed to the formation of an original species
composition of the ornitho-fauna. Twenty-nine species of plants and twenty-nine
species of animals are entered into The Red Book of Ukraine.
Pochaiv. The Pochaiv Lavra as a complex of structures has been
known since the mid-16th с. In the late 17th с. the architectural core of the
ensemble formed, and the Dormition Cathedral became its heart. The monastery was
